ข้อน่ารู้เกี่ยวกับ Abdominal Aorta

• ขนาดของ infrarenal abdominal aorta ปกติ 2 เซนติเมตร (เราจะเรียกว่าเป็น aneurysm เมื่อขนาดของ artery ใหญ่กว่าหรือเท่ากับ 1.5 เท่าของค่าปกติ ซึ่งในกรณีของ abdominal aorta คือ 3 เซนติเมตร)
• ขนาดของ infrarenal abdominal aorta ควรจะเล็กลงเรื่อยๆ เมื่อไกลจากหัวใจมากขึ้น (distal)

Ultrasound of Aorta

• เวลาทำอัลตราซาวด์ของ abdominal aorta ต้องครอบคลุมตั้งแต่ diaphragm ลงไปจนถึง bifurcation
• วัดขนาด aorta ในแนว AP diameter และ outer to outer wall ที่ระดับ diaphragm, superior mesenteric artery (SMA) และ just above aortic bifurcation
• ตรวจดู flow ใน celiac, SMA และ renal arteries
• ตรวจดู kidneys ด้วยทุกครั้งว่าขนาดปกติหรือไม่ มี hydronephrosis หรือไม่

Interesting Facts About Abdominal Aorta

• Normal size 2 cm (infrarenal). Aneurysm when 1.5 time larger than normal.
• Tapering after giving branches
• Aorta ultrasound must include aorta from diaphragmatic hiatus to bifurcation. Scan must include kidneys to evaluate for size and presence of hydronephrosis.
• Aortic diameter obtained on AP dimension, outer to outer wall at level of hiatus, SMA and just above bifurcation.
• Flow within Celiac, SMA and renal arteries should be documented.
